DESIGN SYSTEMS MCP WORKFLOWS FIGMA TO CODE
Date
May 2026 – Jun 2026 (2 months)
Team
1 UX designer, 3 backend developers; UI / design-system partners
Toolkit
Figma, Figma MCP, Cursor, GitLab and Storybook

Overview

Problem
  • Digital Twin had strayed from Nokia’s main design system risking user trust because developers were rebuilding Figma designs from scratch instead of using shared components.
  • New feature: Operators lacked a clear way to access Command Line Interface (CLI) configurations directly within their lab environment, despite relying heavily on CLI tools in other network management software.
Solution
  • Connected developers directly with Nokia’s design system by handing off code merge requests instead of raw Figma files.
  • Overhauled the Web Console visibility and updated the lab package panel, enabling operators to access and use CLI tools seamlessly within their lab setup.
Impact
  • New design to code handoff saved +40 hours
  • Delivered a unified UX consistent with the broader Nokia product ecosystem.
  • Shipped the Web Console in release 26.6, allowing operators to configure lab nodes directly within their current context.
